portalpenny.online is an impersonation phishing page that presented itself as "PennyTrust Bank - Home", targeting people who believe they are dealing with that bank's online portal. The "portal" prefix in the domain mimics a customer login gateway. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-08-19. The site has been offline since 2026-10-08, with its content blocked by the provider, and was still down when last checked on 2026-10-19.
How the scam works
Bank impersonation pages copy the look of a real institution's homepage so a visitor arriving from an email, text or search ad sees a familiar brand and moves straight to the sign-in form. Whatever is typed there, including usernames, passwords, one-time codes, card numbers or personal details, goes to the operators rather than to any bank. With those details they can attempt to take over accounts, approve transfers or run follow-up scams that sound credible because they quote the victim's own information.
Evidence
On 2026-09-26, 12 of 91 VirusTotal engines classified the domain as malicious, among them BitDefender, Fortinet, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, G-Data, Gridinsoft, alphaMountain.ai, CRDF and CyRadar. Agreement among that many unrelated vendors makes a false positive unlikely, though most engines still had no verdict, so many users would have received no warning. The domain also appears in four AlienVault OTX threat pulses and is listed on the PhishDestroy blocklist.
Infrastructure
The domain was registered through Dynadot Inc and served from Cloudflare's network, with the IP geolocated to Canada. Cloudflare sits in front of the real origin server, so the hosting address says little about where the operators are. The certificate came from Google Trust Services (WE1), which is issued automatically for sites on this network. The padlock in the browser therefore proved only an encrypted connection and nothing about whether the site was legitimate.
What to do
If you entered credentials on this page, change your online banking password at once from the bank's official app or a bookmarked address, and change it on any other service where you reused it. Call your bank on the number printed on your card to report possible compromise, ask them to review recent transfers and payees, and reset two-factor authentication if you entered a code. Watch for calls or messages that claim to come from the bank and quote your details, because stolen data often fuels later fraud.
