play-roblox.com is a gaming-themed scam that impersonated Roblox. It presented itself under the platform's own sign-up headline, "Play Free Online Games on Roblox - Sign Up to Play! - Roblox". It was aimed at Roblox players and the parents who manage their accounts. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-09-29. The site has been offline since 2026-10-06, and its DNS was still inactive when we last checked on 2026-10-19.
How the scam works
Lookalike Roblox sites use a domain that reads like an official play link, plus a copy of the real sign-up or login screen. Visitors who type in their username and password give those credentials straight to the operators. Some sites also dangle free Robux or rare items to get players to log in or enter payment details. A stolen account can be stripped of its Robux and limited items, used to scam the victim's friends, or resold. Young players often reuse one password across games and email, so a single entry can expose more than one account.
Evidence
Thirteen of 91 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain on 2026-09-29, the same day PhishDestroy caught it. The flagging vendors include Criminal IP, alphaMountain.ai, CRDF, CyRadar, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Fortinet, G-Data and Gridinsoft. Engines from that many separate security vendors agreed within days of launch. The domain also appears in two AlienVault OTX threat pulses, so other researchers were tracking it too.
Infrastructure
The domain was registered through GoDaddy.com, LLC on 2026-09-13, just 16 days before it was detected. It went dark about a week after detection, which fits a short-lived campaign. Traffic ran through Cloudflare, Inc., with the address geolocated to Canada, so the true origin server stays hidden. A free Let's Encrypt certificate gave it a browser padlock, which proves only that the connection was encrypted, not that the site was genuine.
What to do
If you entered Roblox details on this site, change your Roblox password right away. Use a new password that you have not used anywhere else. Then turn on 2-Step Verification and log out of all other sessions from your account settings. Check that the email and phone number on the account are still yours, and change the password on any other service that shared it. If you entered card details, contact your bank. Security teams and parents managing filters should block the domain and watch for other lookalike Roblox play and login domains.
