PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

merchant.sellikemad.online was a phishing page that presented itself as "GreenDot Bank - Mobile Dashboard", a copy of the account area used by Green Dot prepaid card and mobile banking customers. PhishDestroy first saw it on 2026-08-16 and classified it as impersonation. The site has been offline since 2026-09-11, and its DNS was still inactive on 2026-10-19.

How the scam works

Fake bank dashboards like this one are usually reached through text messages or emails warning of a locked card, a suspicious charge or a pending deposit. The victim is asked to sign in, and the page captures the username and password. Many such pages then ask for a one-time code, card number or security answers to complete a "verification". With those details, criminals can take over the real account, move the balance or reroute direct deposits. The "merchant" subdomain on an unrelated domain name has nothing to do with Green Dot, which is a clear sign the page was not genuine.

Evidence

When VirusTotal checked the domain on 2026-08-27, 10 of 91 engines flagged it. Among them were Kaspersky, BitDefender, G-Data, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, alphaMountain.ai, CRDF, Ermes and Gridinsoft. Detection by mainstream antivirus vendors alongside specialist phishing feeds points to deliberate banking-credential theft rather than a misconfigured site. The domain is listed on the PhishDestroy blocklist.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered through NameCheap, Inc. and hosted on Namecheap's own network in the United States at 162.0.235.250. A domain name and hosting bought from a single low-cost provider is a typical setup for short-lived phishing pages. This one stayed reachable for less than a month after PhishDestroy first saw it.

What to do

If you entered your Green Dot login on this page, change your password right away through the official app or website. Review recent transactions, direct-deposit settings and linked cards. If you shared a card number, one-time code or security answers, call Green Dot using the number printed on your card and ask them to lock or replace the card. Report unauthorized charges at the same time. Treat any unexpected message that urges you to "verify" your account as suspect. Defenders should block the domain and the hosting IP, and search mail and SMS logs for links that point to it.
