PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

instander.vip is an impersonation phishing page that trades on the Instagram brand and targets Instagram users looking for an alternative or modified app. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-10-15. As of 2026-10-19 the site is online and its content is live, so it remains an active risk.

How the scam works

The page is titled "Instander 18.0 APK (BETA). Download Latest Version" and presents itself as a download portal for an Android app package tied to Instagram. Its title points to a software download, while we classify it as Instagram impersonation phishing. Schemes like this use a familiar brand to get visitors to sideload an APK from outside the official app store or to sign in through an Instagram-branded flow. Victims can lose their Instagram username and password, which can lead to account takeover. An unvetted APK can also run with whatever permissions the user grants it on their phone.

Evidence

On 2026-10-15, VirusTotal showed 8 of 92 engines flagging the domain: alphaMountain.ai, BitDefender, ESET, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Fortinet, G-Data, Lionic and Sophos. That is a minority of engines, but it includes several established security vendors. urlscan.io returned a malicious verdict and detected Instagram branding on the page. The domain appears in 4 AlienVault OTX pulses and is listed on the PhishDestroy blocklist.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered on 2023-02-03 through Porkbun. It resolves to 188.114.97.3 on Cloudflare, Inc. infrastructure in Canada. Because Cloudflare acts as a proxy, this address does not reveal the origin server. The site uses a TLS certificate issued by Google Trust Services (WE1), so the padlock in the browser says nothing about whether the site is legitimate.
