help-trez-rio-eng.square.site is a phishing page that impersonates Trezor, the hardware wallet maker, and is aimed at people setting up a new device. It sits on a free subdomain of Square's website builder, borrowing that platform's reputation instead of using a lookalike domain of its own. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-09-04. It was still online with its content live on 2026-10-19.
How the scam works
The page title, "Trezor.io/Start® — Starting Up Your Device | Trezor® | Trezor.io/start", copies the wording of Trezor's real onboarding page so it appears in searches by new owners looking for setup help. Pages like this usually walk the visitor through a fake setup flow. That flow ends with a request to type in the 12- or 24-word recovery phrase, or it pushes a counterfeit download of the wallet software. Whoever holds that phrase controls the wallet, so a victim who enters it can lose everything stored on the device. Trezor never asks for a recovery phrase on a website.
Evidence
On 2026-09-14, 13 of 89 VirusTotal engines flagged the page. Those engines include alphaMountain.ai, BitDefender, CyRadar, ESET, Emsisoft, Fortinet, G-Data and LevelBlue. That is meaningful agreement from established vendors, but most engines still rated it clean, so many browsers and filters may not warn visitors. Beyond VirusTotal, PhishDestroy is the only blocklist carrying it.
Infrastructure
The 2019-02-05 registration date and the MarkMonitor Inc. registrar belong to the parent square.site domain, not to this scam. The scammer simply created a free subdomain on a legitimate builder. The site is served from Weebly, Inc. infrastructure in the US, which powers Square's hosted sites. A takedown therefore goes through the platform's abuse process rather than a domain registrar. Its Let's Encrypt certificate only means the padlock is present and says nothing about legitimacy.
What to do
If you typed your recovery phrase into this page, treat the wallet as compromised. Reset your Trezor, generate a brand-new phrase, and move any remaining funds to it immediately. Never reuse the exposed words. If you downloaded anything from the page, uninstall it, scan the computer, and get Trezor Suite only through Trezor's official site. Security teams should block this subdomain, watch for other Trezor-themed square.site pages, and report it to Square's abuse team so the content is removed.
