PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

evmrewards.org is a fake token airdrop site that imitates Ethereum and presents itself as an "EVM Retroactive" reward program for wallet holders. It targets crypto users who believe they qualify for a retroactive token distribution for past on-chain activity. PhishDestroy first detected it on 2026-10-16, one day after the domain was registered. The site has been offline since 2026-10-18, its content blocked by the provider, and was confirmed dead on 2026-10-19.

How the scam works

The page, titled "EVM Retroactive | Your wallet. New possibilities.", borrows the familiar language of retroactive airdrops to convince visitors they have unclaimed tokens waiting. To "claim" them, the victim is asked to connect a wallet and sign one or more requests. In schemes of this type, those signatures are token approvals, permits or transfers that hand the attacker control over the victim's assets, letting them empty tokens and NFTs from the wallet. No real airdrop exists, and anything taken this way is typically unrecoverable.

Evidence

urlscan.io rated the site malicious and identified Ethereum as the impersonated brand. The domain is listed on the MetaMask and SEAL blocklists alongside PhishDestroy, and it appears in 4 AlienVault OTX threat pulses. VirusTotal showed 0 detections out of 92 engines on 2026-10-16, a common result for freshly registered phishing domains that antivirus vendors have not yet catalogued.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered on 2026-10-15 through NameSilo, LLC. It resolved to 172.67.202.199 on Cloudflare's network (AS13335) in the United States, so the origin server sat behind Cloudflare's proxy. Its TLS certificate was issued by Let's Encrypt (YE2), which explains the padlock visitors would have seen in the browser.

What to do

If you only opened the page, no further action is needed, but do not return to it or similar "retroactive" claim sites. If you connected a wallet and signed anything, use a token approval checker to revoke every approval granted around that time, and move remaining assets to a new wallet if you entered a seed phrase or signed a permit. Never type a recovery phrase into a website to claim tokens. Defenders should block evmrewards.org at DNS and proxy level and watch for lookalike domains using the same EVM Retroactive branding.
