decentraland.social posed as Decentraland, the blockchain metaverse where users own LAND parcels, wearables and MANA tokens through their crypto wallets. Its page carried the plain title "Decentraland", and the .social ending was chosen to pass as a community or social hub for the platform. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-08-28. The site has been offline since 2026-09-25 and was still unreachable when last checked on 2026-10-19.
How the scam works
Decentraland has no username-and-password login. Accounts are crypto wallets, so a convincing copy of its interface gives scammers an easy reason to ask visitors to connect a wallet. Fake pages of this type usually push the visitor to "log in", claim an event reward or verify an account. The wallet then shows a prompt that, once approved, can grant spending rights over tokens and NFTs or reveal a recovery phrase typed into a bogus form. Victims can lose MANA, LAND, wearables and anything else held in the connected wallet.
Evidence
Six of 89 VirusTotal engines classified the domain as malicious on 2026-09-12: alphaMountain.ai, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Fortinet, Gridinsoft, SOCRadar and VIPRE. That is modest coverage, but the vendors are independent of one another. Spamhaus lists the domain in its DBL under the phishing category, which mail and DNS filters use to block it. Four AlienVault OTX pulses reference it, so other threat researchers tracked it too. PhishDestroy carries it on its own blocklist.
Infrastructure
The domain was registered through GoDaddy on 2026-04-14, about four and a half months before PhishDestroy detected it. That gap suggests the name was held in reserve before going live, rather than used the moment it was bought. The site ran on a DigitalOcean server in the United States, an inexpensive cloud setup that is quick to deploy and quick to abandon. It used a free Let's Encrypt certificate, so the padlock in the browser said nothing about whether the site was genuine.
What to do
If you connected a wallet to this site, use a token-approval checker to revoke any permissions it granted. Then move your NFTs, LAND and MANA to a fresh wallet. If you typed a seed phrase anywhere on the page, treat that wallet as compromised and empty it right away to a wallet created on a new device. Reach Decentraland only by typing its official address yourself, not through links in chats, social posts or ads. Defenders should block the domain at the DNS and mail layers and search logs for any wallet-connection traffic to it before 2026-09-25.
