PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

crypto.eventchecker.lol was a short-lived impersonation phishing page aimed at cryptocurrency users. It ran on a "crypto" subdomain under a throwaway .lol name, a setup that makes a page look like an official service checker. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-09-11. The site has been offline since 2026-09-13 and was still dead, with no active DNS, at the last check on 2026-10-19.

How the scam works

Impersonation pages copy the look and wording of a legitimate crypto brand or service so visitors believe they are dealing with the real thing. The victim is then pushed toward a high-value action, such as connecting a wallet and signing a transaction, typing a seed phrase into a fake "verification" form, or logging in with account credentials. Any of these hands control to the operator. A signed approval lets them move tokens out of the wallet, and a seed phrase gives them the entire wallet permanently.

Evidence

Crypto-specific defenders acted quickly. Besides PhishDestroy, the domain is blocked by MetaMask, ScamSniffer and SEAL, three lists that focus on threats against wallet users. General-purpose antivirus coverage was thin. On 2026-09-16, VirusTotal showed only 4 of 89 engines flagging it (alphaMountain.ai, CRDF, Gridinsoft and SOCRadar). Short-lived crypto phishing often slips past broad scanners, which is why the wallet-ecosystem blocklists carry the most weight here.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered on 2026-09-09 through PDR Ltd. d/b/a PublicDomainRegistry.com, and PhishDestroy flagged it two days later. It went dark two days after that. This register-use-discard cycle is typical of campaigns that churn through cheap domains. The site sat behind Cloudflare, Inc. (geolocated to CA), which hides the real origin server, and used a certificate from Google Trust Services, the standard setup for Cloudflare-fronted sites.

What to do

If you connected a wallet to this site, review and revoke any token approvals or permissions granted around 2026-09-11 to 2026-09-13 using a reputable approval checker. If you entered a seed phrase or private key, treat that wallet as compromised and move the remaining assets to a newly created wallet right away. If you typed a password for any crypto account, change it and reset two-factor authentication. Defenders should block the full eventchecker.lol domain, not just this subdomain, and watch for look-alike domains registered with the same pattern.
