cipvault.digital is an impersonation phishing page that presented itself as "Cipher Vault - Home", dressing up as a secure crypto vault service. Its listing by MetaMask and SEAL points to wallet holders as the intended audience. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-08-09. The site has been offline since 2026-09-11, and on 2026-10-19 its domain no longer resolved.

How the scam works

The "Cipher Vault" name borrows the language of safekeeping, which makes users more willing to hand over sensitive material. Pages like this usually ask the visitor to connect a wallet, "verify" or "restore" a vault, or type in a recovery phrase or private key. Whatever is entered goes straight to the operators. A seed phrase gives them full control of the wallet, and a signed approval lets them move tokens without asking again. Victims lose whatever the compromised wallet holds, and because blockchain transfers are final, those losses are rarely recoverable.

Evidence

Eight of 91 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain as of 2026-08-19: alphaMountain.ai, BitDefender, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, G-Data, Gridinsoft, Kaspersky, SOCRadar and VIPRE. That count is modest, but these are unrelated vendors that reached the same verdict independently. The domain is also on the PhishDestroy, MetaMask and SEAL blocklists, so wallet-side warnings fired for anyone who reached it through MetaMask. Four AlienVault OTX threat pulses reference it as well, which means other researchers tracked it too.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered on 2026-08-02 through PDR Ltd. (PublicDomainRegistry.com), only seven days before PhishDestroy caught it. That fast turnaround is typical of throwaway phishing domains. It was served from a Cloudflare address geolocated to Canada, which hides the real origin server behind Cloudflare's network. The site ran for roughly a month before going dark.

What to do

If you entered a recovery phrase or private key on this site, treat that wallet as compromised. Create a new wallet on a trusted device and move any remaining assets there immediately. If you only connected a wallet or signed a transaction, review and revoke token approvals with a reputable approval-checking tool, then watch the address for unexpected transfers. Ignore any "Cipher Vault" support contact offering to recover funds, because follow-up recovery scams are common. Defenders should block the domain, search DNS and proxy logs for visits between 2026-08-02 and 2026-09-11, and warn users who resolved it.
