PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

buytrxx.online presented itself under the plain title "buy trx". It is an impersonation phishing page dressed up as a place to purchase TRX, the native token of the TRON network. It targets people searching for a quick way to acquire TRX. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-08-17. The site has been offline since 2026-09-11, and its DNS was still inactive at the last check on 2026-10-19.

How the scam works

Pages like this copy the look and wording of a legitimate token-buying service so that a visitor believes they are on a real checkout. The usual payoff comes in one of three ways. The victim sends crypto or a card payment for TRX that never arrives. They type a wallet seed phrase or private key into a fake "verification" step. Or they connect a wallet and approve a transaction that hands control of their funds to the operator. In every case the loss is direct and, on-chain, effectively irreversible.

Evidence

When VirusTotal scanned the domain on 2026-08-26, 13 of 91 engines flagged it. They included Kaspersky, BitDefender, Fortinet, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, G-Data, Gridinsoft, CRDF and alphaMountain.ai. That is broad agreement across unrelated vendors for a domain only weeks old. MetaMask and SEAL list it alongside PhishDestroy, so wallet-focused defenders reached the same conclusion independently. Four AlienVault OTX threat pulses also reference it.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered through Namecheap on 2026-07-01, about seven weeks before PhishDestroy detected it. That is a short life typical of disposable phishing domains. It resolved to 23.227.38.65 on Cloudflare's network, with the hosting location given as Canada. Its free automated certificate from Let's Encrypt only means the padlock in the browser said nothing about whether the site was legitimate.

What to do

If you paid buytrxx.online for TRX, contact your bank or card issuer right away and report the transaction as fraud. If you sent crypto, record the transaction hash for any report. If you entered a seed phrase or private key, treat that wallet as compromised and move the remaining funds to a newly created wallet. If you connected a wallet and signed anything, review and revoke token approvals from that address. Security teams should block the domain and the associated IP and watch for look-alike "buy TRX" domains from the same pattern.
