awmselect.shop is a fake online shop that presents itself as "War Memorial Shop | Official Online Store | AWM," borrowing the name of the Australian War Memorial's gift and memorabilia store. It targets people looking for commemorative items, books, medals replicas or souvenirs who assume they are buying from the official source. PhishDestroy first detected it on 2026-10-09, and it was still online with its storefront live on 2026-10-19.
How the scam works
Shops like this copy the look and tone of a trusted institution, then list products at attractive prices to push quick checkouts. The buyer pays by card or another online method and either receives nothing, receives a cheap item unrelated to the order, or gets a stalled tracking number that never resolves. The real loss goes beyond the purchase price, because the name, address, phone number and full card details typed at checkout end up with the operators and can be reused for further fraud. The "Official Online Store" wording on a domain unrelated to the memorial is the core of the deception.
Evidence
Seven of 92 VirusTotal engines flag the domain: alphaMountain.ai, CRDF, Fortinet, G-Data, Gridinsoft, LevelBlue and Netcraft, as of 2026-10-09. That is a modest count, but it comes from several unrelated vendors reaching the same conclusion independently. urlscan.io rates the site malicious and specifically identifies it as a fake shop, and the domain appears in four AlienVault OTX threat pulses. It is listed on the PhishDestroy blocklist.
Infrastructure
The domain was registered through Dynadot Inc. on 2026-06-12, roughly four months before PhishDestroy detected it, so it had time to be set up and indexed before attracting scrutiny. It is hosted on the Malakmadze Web LLC network in Georgia, with no connection to Australia or to the institution whose name it uses. Its free, automatically issued TLS certificate only means the connection is encrypted and says nothing about who runs the shop.
What to do
If you ordered from awmselect.shop, contact your bank or card issuer now, report the charge as fraud, ask for a chargeback and have the card cancelled and reissued. Watch your statements for small test charges, and treat any follow-up emails, texts or calls about your "order" as phishing. If you reused a password to create an account there, change it everywhere you used it. Buy memorial merchandise only through the institution's own website. Defenders should block the domain and its hosting address, and flag lookalike storefronts that use the AWM name in shopping and ad traffic.
