atenciojewelry.shop is a fake online store posing as John Atencio, the Denver designer jeweler known for engagement rings and diamonds. Its page title copies the real brand's search listing word for word: "Engagement Rings Denver | Designer Denver Jewelers & Diamond Experts – John Atencio". The likely targets are couples shopping for engagement rings and fine jewelry. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-10-05, and the site was still online and serving its storefront on 2026-10-19.
How the scam works
Fake shops like this borrow a trusted jeweler's name, product photos and polished design, then use deep discounts on high-value pieces to rush buyers to checkout. The buyer pays by card or another method and receives nothing, a cheap substitute, or a fake tracking number that goes nowhere. A ring purchase is expensive and emotionally loaded, so each victim can lose a lot. The checkout form also captures card numbers, billing addresses and contact details, which can be reused for further fraud. The ".shop" domain built from the Atencio name is meant to pass as an official outlet, but it has nothing to do with the real company.
Evidence
urlscan.io rated the site malicious and specifically marked it as a fake shop, which matches our classification. On 2026-10-06, VirusTotal showed 9 of 91 engines flagging the domain, including alphaMountain.ai, CRDF, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, G-Data, Gridinsoft, LevelBlue, Lionic and SOCRadar. That is a modest share of engines, so many browsers and filters may not block the site yet. Four AlienVault OTX threat pulses also reference it, and it appears on the PhishDestroy blocklist.
Infrastructure
The domain was registered through Dynadot Inc. on 2026-04-27, about five months before we detected it. Scam operators often register domains early and launch them later. The site is hosted in Georgia on the Malakmadze Web LLC network, an unusual place for a Denver jeweler's storefront and a strong sign that this is not the brand's own website.
What to do
If you ordered from this site, call your card issuer or bank now, report the charge as fraud, and ask for a chargeback before the dispute window closes. Cancel or replace any card you entered there. Watch your statements and be alert to follow-up emails or calls that use the contact details you gave the site.
