apologroove.shop is a fraudulent storefront that uses the name of Sorry State Records. Its page title promises vinyl for punk, hardcore, metal, garage and crust, so it targets record collectors hunting for niche or hard-to-find pressings. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-10-02. On our last check on 2026-10-19 the domain was still registered, but its DNS no longer served the shop, so it could come back online at any time.
How the scam works
Fake shops like this copy the look and catalogue of a trusted specialist seller, often with discounted prices or rare titles that make buyers act quickly. The victim pays at checkout and receives nothing, or receives something worthless, and the operator stops responding. Besides the money, buyers hand over their name, shipping address, email and often card details. That information can be reused for further fraud or sold.
Evidence
Nine of 91 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain on 2026-10-02, including ESET, Fortinet, Netcraft, G-Data, CRDF, Gridinsoft, LevelBlue and alphaMountain.ai. Several of these vendors run independent web-threat feeds, so the agreement among them carries weight even though most engines stayed silent. urlscan.io returned a malicious verdict and specifically identified the page as a fake shop. The domain also appears in one AlienVault OTX threat pulse and on the PhishDestroy blocklist.
Infrastructure
The domain was registered through Dynadot Inc. on 2026-05-10, about five months before we detected it. That gap fits a shop that sat idle or was quietly promoted before drawing attention. It was hosted on the Malakmadze Web LLC network in the US and used a free, automatically issued Let's Encrypt certificate. The padlock in the browser therefore said nothing about whether the seller was legitimate.
What to do
If you ordered from this site, contact your card issuer or payment provider now to dispute the charge and ask for a replacement card. Keep your order confirmation and any emails as proof. Watch for phishing that uses your order details, and change any password you reused when creating an account there. Before buying, confirm a store's genuine web address through the seller's established social channels. Defenders should block apologroove.shop and watch for similar .shop domains that reuse the Sorry State Records page title.
