animateinternational.shop is a fake online shop that presents itself as Animate International, the anime retail brand. Its storefront is titled "Anime Merch, Books, Blu-rays, DVDs & CDs | Animate International" and is aimed at anime and manga fans looking for imported goods or collectibles. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-10-02. As of 2026-10-19 the site was still online and serving its shop pages.
How the scam works
Fake shops like this copy a trusted retailer's name and product range, then list merchandise, Blu-ray box sets and limited items at prices attractive enough to rush a purchase. The buyer enters a delivery address, contact details and card or other payment information at checkout. They then receive nothing, or a cheap item that bears no relation to the order. The victim loses the money paid and also hands over personal and payment data that can be reused for fraud.
Evidence
On 2026-10-06, six of 91 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain: alphaMountain.ai, Bfore.Ai PreCrime, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Gridinsoft, LevelBlue and SOCRadar. That detection count is modest, so many browsers and security tools may still let the site load without a warning. urlscan.io gave a stronger signal, rating the site malicious and specifically identifying it as a fake shop. The domain also appears in two AlienVault OTX threat pulses and on the PhishDestroy blocklist.
Infrastructure
The domain was registered through Dynadot Inc. on 2026-04-17, about five and a half months before PhishDestroy detected it. That gap suggests the domain was registered well in advance rather than put up just before the scam launched. It resolves to an address on the Malakmadze Web LLC network in Georgia, which has no evident connection to the brand it borrows. The site uses a free Let's Encrypt certificate, so the browser padlock only means the connection is encrypted and says nothing about whether the shop is genuine.
What to do
If you ordered from this site, contact your bank or card issuer right away to dispute the charge and ask for a replacement card. Watch your statements for unfamiliar transactions. Treat any email or phone number you gave the shop as exposed, and expect follow-up phishing that refers to your order or a delivery. Buy Animate products only through the retailer's own verified channels, and be suspicious of unusually low prices on .shop lookalike domains. Security teams should block the domain and its hosting IP at web proxies and DNS filters, and report it to the registrar and the hosting provider.
