PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

alternativapublicidad.mx is an impersonation phishing page that greets visitors with a plain "Bienvenido" (Welcome) title rather than a recognizable brand name. Scanners identified the imitated identity only as a generic login-style lure, so it is not tied to one specific company. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-09-25. The site and its phishing content were still live when last checked on 2026-10-19.

How the scam works

Impersonation pages like this copy the look of a familiar sign-in or welcome screen so visitors believe they are on a legitimate service. The victim is asked to log in or confirm details, and whatever is typed into the form goes to the operators. That can include usernames, passwords, email access and personal data, which are then used to take over accounts or launch further fraud. The neutral "Bienvenido" title fits this pattern because it gives nothing away and simply invites the visitor to continue.

Evidence

On 2026-10-03, 14 of 91 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain. The vendors included alphaMountain.ai, BitDefender, CRDF, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Fortinet, G-Data, Google Safe Browsing and Gridinsoft. Google Safe Browsing lists it under SOCIAL_ENGINEERING, the category used for deceptive pages that trick people into handing over information. urlscan.io returned a malicious verdict, and the domain appears in four AlienVault OTX threat pulses, so other researchers have tracked it independently of the PhishDestroy blocklist.

Infrastructure

The domain is not a throwaway. It was registered through GoDaddy.com on 2019-05-09, more than seven years before PhishDestroy detected phishing on it. Age alone does not make a domain trustworthy, and this one now serves deceptive content. It resolves to 108.179.194.79 on an Oracle Corporation network located in Mexico. The Let's Encrypt certificate only means the connection is encrypted, and the padlock says nothing about whether the site is honest.

What to do

If you entered a password on this site, change it immediately. Also change it on every other account where you reused it. Turn on two-factor authentication, preferably with an authenticator app, and check affected accounts for unfamiliar logins, forwarding rules or changed recovery details. If you shared personal or payment information, watch for follow-up phishing and contact your bank where relevant. Defenders should block the domain and its IP at the DNS and proxy level, search logs for visits since 2026-09-25, and force credential resets for any users who submitted data.
