PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

ai-app.icu was a phishing page that presented itself as Facebook, down to a browser tab titled simply "Facebook". It targeted Facebook account holders, and nothing in its generic "ai-app" name points to Meta. PhishDestroy first detected it on 2026-09-13. The site went offline on 2026-09-17, and on 2026-10-19 the domain no longer resolved in DNS.

How the scam works

Facebook impersonation pages usually reach victims through links in messages, ads or fake security alerts. They show a copy of the familiar Facebook sign-in screen. Anything typed there, including email, phone number, password and sometimes a two-factor code, goes to the operators instead of Facebook. A stolen account is then used to message the victim's friends with more lures, run scams under a trusted name, or reach linked pages and ad accounts.

Evidence

On 2026-09-13, 8 of 89 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain: alphaMountain.ai, BitDefender, ESET, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Fortinet, G-Data, Sophos and Webroot. That is a modest share, but these are established vendors that reached the same verdict on their own. urlscan.io rated the page malicious and recognized Facebook branding on it, which matches our classification. Among blocklists, PhishDestroy lists it.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered through Dynadot Inc on 2026-05-11, about four months before it surfaced as a Facebook lure. Holding a domain that long before use is a common way to get past checks that flag brand-new registrations. Traffic passed through Cloudflare, Inc. (address 188.114.96.3, located in CA), so the IP belongs to Cloudflare's proxy rather than the server that hosted the kit. It carried a free Let's Encrypt certificate, so the browser padlock gave no assurance the page was genuine.

What to do

If you entered your Facebook login on this page, change your Facebook password at once. Also change it on any other service where you used the same one. Turn on two-factor authentication with an authenticator app, then review Facebook's active sessions and log out anything you don't recognize. Check your recent messages, posts and linked pages for activity you didn't make, and warn friends who may have received links from your account. Defenders should block ai-app.icu and look in proxy and mail logs for users who reached it between 2026-09-13 and 2026-09-17.
