PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

aeroinsta.app is an impersonation phishing page that presents itself as the official download source for AeroInsta, an unofficial modified Instagram client for Android. It targets Android users who want extra Instagram features and are willing to sideload an app from outside Google Play. PhishDestroy first saw the domain on 2026-10-16. As of 2026-10-19 the site is online and still serving its content.

How the scam works

The page is titled "AeroInsta 26.0 - Download Official APK for Android (2026)". It uses an official-sounding version number and current year to convince visitors that this is the legitimate, up-to-date build. Sites like this get users to install an APK file outside the Play Store, which removes the checks a store would normally apply. A tampered app of this kind can ask for an Instagram login and pass the credentials or session to the operators. It can also request broad device permissions or bring in unwanted software. Victims risk losing their Instagram account, the private messages and contacts inside it, and the security of the phone itself.

Evidence

Independent detection is currently thin. On VirusTotal, 1 of 92 engines flagged the domain at the 2026-10-16 check, and that engine was Gridinsoft. The domain is listed on the PhishDestroy blocklist and appears in 4 AlienVault OTX threat pulses. The low vendor count means many security tools will not yet warn visitors, so they should not take the absence of a browser warning as a sign that the site is safe.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered on 2022-05-27 through Porkbun LLC. It resolves to 188.114.96.3 on the Cloudflare network (CLOUDFLARENET, United States), which hides the server behind it. The site's TLS certificate was issued by Google Trust Services (WE1), so the padlock in the browser says nothing about whether the page is legitimate.

What to do

If you downloaded an APK from this site, uninstall it and run a mobile security scan. Also review which apps have accessibility, device-admin or notification-access permissions, and turn off any you do not recognise. If you logged into Instagram through the app, change your password from a trusted device and enable two-factor authentication. Then end all active sessions in Instagram's security settings and change the same password anywhere else you reused it. Defenders should block the domain at DNS and proxy level, flag sideloaded APKs on managed Android devices, and report the site to Cloudflare and Porkbun abuse teams to speed up takedown.
