activeaqua.shop presented itself as the home page of Aquascutum Active, borrowing the name of the British clothing label to look like an official or authorised outlet. Its audience was online shoppers searching for the brand or chasing discounted apparel. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-09-09 and classified it as impersonation phishing. The site is now dead: its DNS stopped resolving and it has been offline since 2026-10-17, which was confirmed again on 2026-10-19.
How the scam works
Brand-impersonation shops like this copy a label's name, here the "Home | Aquascutum Active" title, and pair it with an unrelated domain on a cheap extension to pass as a legitimate store. Visitors are drawn in with attractive prices, then asked to create an account and enter card or billing details at checkout. The usual losses are the payment itself, since goods arrive counterfeit or not at all, plus card numbers, addresses and login details that can be reused for further fraud.
Evidence
On 2026-09-18, 13 of 89 VirusTotal engines marked the domain as malicious. They include alphaMountain.ai, BitDefender, CRDF, CyRadar, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Fortinet, G-Data and Gridinsoft. That is a moderate but meaningful consensus for a short-lived shop, and it was reached independently of our own listing. The domain also appears in four AlienVault OTX threat pulses, so other researchers were tracking it too.
Infrastructure
The domain was registered through Dynadot Inc. on 2026-07-20, about seven weeks before PhishDestroy detected it. That gap is a typical window for setting up a store and buying traffic. It was hosted at 185.234.12.35 on the Malakmadze Web LLC network, geolocated to China, which is an odd home for a site claiming to be a British fashion brand. The site used a free Let's Encrypt certificate, so its padlock icon said nothing about who ran it.
What to do
If you ordered from activeaqua.shop, contact your card issuer now to dispute the charge, ask for a replacement card and watch your statements for unfamiliar transactions. If you created an account there, change that password wherever you reused it and turn on two-factor authentication on your email. Be wary of follow-up messages about "order problems" or refunds. Buy Aquascutum products only through the brand's own channels or retailers you already know. Defenders should keep the domain and its hosting IP on blocklists in case DNS comes back, and should report any recurrence to the brand.
