abhay-gupta-dev.github.io was a phishing page posing as Spotify's web player under the title "Spotify-Web player: Music for everyone". It targeted Spotify listeners who could be tricked into signing in on a copy instead of the real service. PhishDestroy first saw it on 2026-09-11, and it went offline the next day, 2026-09-12. When last checked on 2026-10-19, the address still served no content.
How the scam works
The page copies the look and wording of Spotify's browser player so a visitor arriving from a link feels they are on the genuine service. Pages like this usually put a login prompt in front of the music. Whatever is typed in goes to the operator rather than to Spotify. A stolen account can be taken over, resold, or used to try the same password on email and other services. Copies of streaming brands sometimes also ask for payment details on a "billing" step.
Evidence
On 2026-09-12, 11 of 89 VirusTotal engines flagged the page, including BitDefender, ESET, Fortinet, Emsisoft, G-Data, Gridinsoft, Lionic and alphaMountain.ai. That is a modest share of engines, but the detections come from several independent vendors and agree with each other. urlscan.io rated the page malicious and recognised Spotify branding on it. Among blocklists, PhishDestroy is the one listing it.
Infrastructure
The site was a subdomain of github.io, the shared domain behind GitHub's free Pages hosting. The 2013-03-08 registration date and the MarkMonitor, Inc. registrar belong to that parent domain, not to whoever built this page, so they say nothing about how old the operation is. Traffic was served through AS54113 Fastly, Inc. in the US, the delivery network in front of GitHub Pages. Free project pages like this cost nothing to publish, and the brief life of this one, from 2026-09-11 to 2026-09-12, fits a disposable throwaway setup.
What to do
If you signed in on this page, change your Spotify password right away and turn on two-factor authentication wherever it is offered. Change the password on any other account that used the same one, starting with your email. In your Spotify account settings, sign out of all devices and check for profile or plan changes you did not make. If you entered card details, contact your bank to block the card and dispute any unknown charges. Defenders should block the hostname, look for Spotify-themed lures in mail and chat logs around 2026-09-11, and report any new copies on GitHub Pages to GitHub.
