PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

smtp6-coinbase.com is an impersonation phishing domain that borrows the Coinbase name to target people who hold accounts on the exchange. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-10-07. It was still online with live content when last checked on 2026-10-19. Anyone who reaches it through a link should treat it as hostile.

How the scam works

The name pairs Coinbase with "smtp6", a prefix that reads like a mail-server label. That makes it look like part of the exchange's own infrastructure when it appears in emails or links. Coinbase impersonation schemes of this type typically send victims to a lookalike login or "account security" page that collects email addresses, passwords and one-time 2FA codes. With those details, an attacker can sign in to the real account and move the funds out. The page currently shows the title "Parked Domain name on Hostinger DNS system", while we classify the domain as Coinbase impersonation phishing.

Evidence

Sixteen of 92 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain at the 2026-10-07 check, including BitDefender, ESET, Fortinet, G-Data, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, alphaMountain.ai, ADMINUSLabs and Google Safe Browsing. Google Safe Browsing labels it SOCIAL_ENGINEERING, the category it uses for deceptive pages, so many browsers will display a warning. The domain appears in two AlienVault OTX threat pulses and on the PhishDestroy blocklist.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered on 2025-10-05 through HOSTINGER operations, UAB. That is roughly a year before PhishDestroy detected it, so it is not a freshly registered throwaway. It resolves to 2.57.91.92 on AS47583 Hostinger International Limited, geolocated to the US. Its Let's Encrypt certificate gives it a padlock in the browser, but the padlock only means the connection is encrypted, not that the site is legitimate.

What to do

If you entered Coinbase credentials on this domain, change your Coinbase password immediately from the official app. Also change the password on the email account linked to Coinbase. Reset 2FA, preferably to an authenticator app or security key, and sign out all other active sessions. Review your recent account activity, withdrawal addresses and API keys, and report anything unfamiliar to Coinbase support. Defenders should block the domain and its IP at the mail and web gateway, and search mail logs for messages linking to it.
