PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

microotrustcreditfcu.com is an impersonation phishing site built to look like a federal credit union. It targets people searching for quick financing or a new account. The doubled "o" in "microotrust" and the "fcu" suffix mimic a legitimate credit union's name. PhishDestroy first flagged the site on 2026-10-05, and it was still live and reachable on 2026-10-19.

How the scam works

The page is titled "bAsset Financing, Easy Acount in Minutes". It lures visitors with the promise of fast loans or instant account opening, and the misspellings in that headline are themselves a warning sign. Sites like this ask applicants for online banking usernames and passwords, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, ID documents and card details, all framed as part of a credit check or account setup. The operators can then use the stolen logins to drain existing accounts. The identity data can be used to open credit in the victim's name or sold on. Some variants also ask for an upfront "processing" or "insurance" fee before a loan that never arrives.

Evidence

urlscan.io returned a malicious verdict and matched the page to generic banking branding, which fits a fake financial institution. On VirusTotal, 6 of 92 engines flagged the domain as of 2026-10-07: alphaMountain.ai, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Fortinet, Gridinsoft, Netcraft and SOCRadar. That is a modest count, so many browsers and filters may still let the page through. The domain also appears in two AlienVault OTX threat pulses, which shows other researchers are tracking it.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered through eNom, LLC on 2023-11-28. That is almost three years before PhishDestroy detected it, so either the operators held the name for a long time or the site went unnoticed for a long stretch. It resolves to 23.153.104.17 on the Aquiryn LLC network in the United States.

What to do

If you entered online banking credentials, change that password immediately from your bank's real app or website. Turn on two-factor authentication and review recent transactions. If you submitted your SSN, ID or card details, call your bank and card issuer, freeze your credit with the major bureaus, and watch for new accounts opened in your name. Never pay a fee to receive a loan. Legitimate credit unions do not demand payment before disbursing funds. Security teams should block the domain and its IP, search mail and proxy logs for visits, and alert staff that lookalike credit union names are being used for loan-themed phishing.

How do phishing scams typically work?
