PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

kucoinchain.com is an impersonation phishing site that borrows the KuCoin name to pass as part of the exchange's ecosystem and lure its customers. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-09-23. As of 2026-10-19 the site was still online and serving live content. The page title reads "OSL", the name of a different crypto platform, while our classification is KuCoin impersonation based on the domain name.

How the scam works

Domains like this rely on a believable brand-plus-keyword name, such as "kucoin" with "chain", to pass as an official exchange or blockchain portal. Visitors are typically asked to sign in, enter 2FA codes, or deposit crypto into what looks like their account. Anything typed goes straight to the operators, who can then log into the real KuCoin account, drain balances, or keep deposits sent to the fake platform. Some variants also ask for a wallet seed phrase under the pretext of syncing or verification, which hands over full control of that wallet.

Evidence

On 2026-10-03, 14 of 91 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain, including alphaMountain.ai, BitDefender, CRDF, CyRadar, ESET, Emsisoft, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker and Fortinet. That is a moderate count, but it comes from several unrelated vendors, so it is not one engine's guess. The domain also appears on the MetaMask and SEAL blocklists alongside PhishDestroy's. It is referenced in 2 AlienVault OTX threat pulses.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered on 2026-09-12 through Cloudflare, Inc., just 11 days before PhishDestroy detected it. That short gap is typical of throwaway phishing domains spun up for a quick campaign. Its address sits on Cloudflare's network with a Canadian location, which means the server actually hosting the content is hidden behind Cloudflare's proxy. The free Let's Encrypt certificate gives the site a padlock icon, but a padlock only means the connection is encrypted and says nothing about who runs the site.

What to do

If you signed in here, change your KuCoin password right away, reset 2FA, and revoke any active sessions and API keys. Then turn on a withdrawal address whitelist and check recent withdrawals. If you sent crypto to this site, treat it as lost, and ignore anyone who later demands a fee to recover or unlock it. If you entered a seed phrase, move the remaining assets to a newly created wallet immediately. Defenders should block kucoinchain.com at DNS and the proxy, and watch for similar KuCoin lookalike domains.
