PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

krakens-onion.ru impersonates Kraken. Its Russian-language page title translates to "Official Kraken Onion mirror via Tor. Secure login." It targets Russian-speaking users who search the open web for a working way into a Kraken onion service. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-09-24, and the site was still online and serving its content when last checked on 2026-10-19.

How the scam works

Fake "mirror" sites prey on people who cannot reach an onion address directly and look for a clearnet shortcut. This page promises exactly that, with a "secure login" for anyone who enters their Kraken credentials. Whatever a visitor types goes to the operators. That can include a username, password and any one-time code. With those, the operators can take over the account and spend or withdraw its balance. They may also push the victim to "top up" through the fake interface, and that money goes straight to them.

Evidence

Six of 92 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain as of 2026-10-07: alphaMountain.ai, CRDF, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Fortinet, Gridinsoft and SOCRadar. That is a modest count, but it comes from several unrelated vendors. Spamhaus independently lists the domain in its DBL under the phishing category. Four AlienVault OTX threat pulses reference it, so other researchers have tracked it too. It also appears on the PhishDestroy blocklist.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered through RU-CENTER on 2025-12-02, roughly ten months before PhishDestroy detected it. The site sits behind Cloudflare, with its edge address resolving to Canada. That reflects the proxy, not where the operators or their server are located. The page uses a Google Trust Services certificate, so the browser padlock only means the connection is encrypted. It says nothing about whether the site is genuine.

What to do

If you entered credentials here, treat that account as compromised. Change the password immediately from a source you trust, and reset two-factor authentication. Change the password anywhere else you reused it, and review recent logins and balance movements. Do not send funds or "verification deposits" through this page or any mirror linked from it. Defenders should block the domain at DNS and proxy level and ingest Spamhaus DBL phishing listings. They can also report the site to Cloudflare and RU-CENTER to speed up takedown.
