PhishDestroy threat report
vanillabalance.online is an impersonation phishing page dressed up as a balance checker for Vanilla prepaid gift cards. It uses Mastercard branding, and its page title reads "How to Check Your Vanilla Gift Card Balance | Visa & Mastercard". It targets people holding prepaid gift cards who want to see what is left on them. PhishDestroy first flagged the domain on 2026-09-03, and the site was still online and serving content as of 2026-10-19.
Fake balance checkers rely on a simple step: to see your balance, you type in the full card number, expiration date and security code, sometimes with a PIN or ZIP code. Prepaid gift cards carry no name or bank login. Anyone who has those details can spend the card online right away, so the balance is usually gone within minutes of submission. The page title mentions both Visa and Mastercard, while we classified the site as Mastercard impersonation. Victims lose whatever value was on the card, along with any personal details the form collected.
Spamhaus lists the domain in its DBL under the phishing category, which is a strong signal that filtering infrastructure treats it as malicious. VirusTotal returned 6 detections out of 89 engines on 2026-09-11, from alphaMountain.ai, CRDF, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Fortinet, Gridinsoft and SOCRadar. That count is modest, so many security tools may still let the page through. The domain also appears in 5 AlienVault OTX threat pulses and on the PhishDestroy blocklist.
The domain was registered on 2026-01-08 through Global Domain Group LLC, almost eight months before PhishDestroy detected it. A gap like that fits a domain held in reserve or one that ran quietly before being reported. It resolves to an address on the NEW DHAKA HARDWARE network, located in the US. The Let's Encrypt certificate gives the page a padlock, which proves nothing about who runs it.
If you entered a gift card number, expiry date or security code here, call the issuer immediately using the phone number printed on the back of the card. Ask them to freeze the card and, where possible, issue a replacement. Keep the card and your purchase receipt, because issuers often require both before refunding any unspent balance. Check balances only through the website or phone number printed on the card itself, never through a search result or ad. Defenders should block the domain at DNS and proxy level, and retailers and card issuers can share it with fraud teams handling gift card complaints.
