PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

aktamtbstore.shop is a fake online shop dressed up as "Akta MTB", a store for mountain bike gear, protection and apparel. It targets riders shopping for helmets, pads and riding clothes. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-09-25. As of 2026-10-19 the site is still online and serving its storefront.

How the scam works

The page presents itself as "Mountain Bike Gear, Protection & Apparel | Akta MTB", with a product catalogue of the kind a real cycling retailer would carry. Shops like this lure buyers with prices well below normal. At checkout they collect the buyer's name, address and payment card details. Victims typically lose the money they paid and receive nothing, or a cheap item unrelated to the order. The card and personal details they entered can then be reused for further fraud.

Evidence

On 2026-10-07, 13 of 92 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain. The vendors include alphaMountain.ai, BitDefender, CyRadar, ESET, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Fortinet, G-Data and Gridinsoft. Several of these are mainstream products that will warn or block users outright. urlscan.io returned a malicious verdict and specifically identified the page as a fake shop. Spamhaus lists the domain in its DBL as a spam domain, and it appears in four AlienVault OTX threat pulses alongside the PhishDestroy blocklist.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered through Spaceship, Inc. on 2026-04-15, about five months before PhishDestroy detected it. Throwaway shops are often registered early so the storefront can run for a while before being reported. The site is hosted on the Malakmadze Web LLC network in the US. It uses a free Let's Encrypt certificate, so the browser padlock only confirms an encrypted connection and says nothing about whether the shop is legitimate.

What to do

If you placed an order, contact your bank or card issuer right away. Report the charge as fraud, request a chargeback and ask for the card to be replaced. If you paid by PayPal or a similar service, open a dispute there. Keep screenshots and any order confirmation emails. Expect follow-up phishing using the name, address and email you gave the shop. Security teams should block aktamtbstore.shop at the DNS and web proxy level and add it to e-commerce fraud filters.
