PhishDestroy threat report
winrar.one is a phishing site posing as the official home of WinRAR, the widely used file archiver. It carries the title "WinRAR – Compress, Encrypt, Package and Backup" and targets anyone looking for the program, including people who keep crypto wallets on the same computer. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-09-19. When last checked on 2026-10-19 it was still online and serving its content, a full month after detection.
Fake download portals for popular utilities rely on a familiar brand and a believable domain to make visitors trust whatever they click. A visitor who believes this is WinRAR's real site has little reason to question an installer or a prompt it presents. Lookalike software sites like this one commonly hand out tampered installers that quietly harvest browser data, saved passwords and wallet files, so a single download can expose far more than the archiver itself. Inclusion on MetaMask and SEAL blocklists indicates the site is considered a risk to crypto users specifically.
Vendor coverage is thin but consistent. On 2026-09-29, 6 of 91 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain: alphaMountain.ai, CRDF, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Gridinsoft, SOCRadar and VIPRE. Beyond PhishDestroy, MetaMask and SEAL also block it, which matters because those lists protect wallet users directly. Three AlienVault OTX pulses reference the domain, showing other researchers have tracked it independently. Most engines are still silent, so a clean result from one scanner should not be read as a sign the site is safe.
The domain was registered through Name.com, Inc. on 2026-04-10, roughly five months before PhishDestroy caught it. That gap suggests it was set up well in advance or ran unnoticed for a while. It resolves to 144.126.134.105 on Contabo Inc. infrastructure in the US. Its Let's Encrypt certificate gives the page a browser padlock. That padlock only means the connection is encrypted and says nothing about who runs the site.
Do not run anything downloaded from winrar.one. If you already did, disconnect the machine, scan it with up-to-date security software, and consider reinstalling the operating system. From a clean device, change passwords saved in your browser and turn on two-factor authentication. If a crypto wallet lived on that computer, move your funds to a new wallet with a fresh seed phrase, because the old one may be exposed. Get WinRAR only from its official publisher. Defenders should block the domain and its IP and check endpoint logs for installers fetched from it.
