Overview

whastaapp.online is an impersonation phishing page built on a misspelling of WhatsApp. It targets WhatsApp users who mistype the name or follow a link without checking it closely. PhishDestroy first detected the domain on 2026-10-16. As of 2026-10-19 the site was still online and serving content.

How the scam works

Typosquats like this one swap or double letters so the address passes a quick glance. The page title shows only the bare domain name, and nothing on it identifies a legitimate service. Pages that impersonate WhatsApp usually imitate a login, web-linking or verification screen. They push the visitor to enter a phone number, a six-digit SMS code or a two-step PIN, or to scan a QR code that links the attacker's device to the account. Once the account is hijacked, the attacker can read chats and impersonate the victim to their contacts. Hijacked accounts are commonly used to push fake investment offers, crypto scams or urgent money requests.

Evidence

On 2026-10-16, VirusTotal showed 2 of 92 engines flagging the domain: alphaMountain.ai and Gridinsoft. That detection rate is low, so most security tools may not yet warn visitors. The site uses a TLS certificate from Let's Encrypt (YR2), so the padlock in the browser says nothing about whether the site is legitimate.

What to do

Do not enter phone numbers, codes or PINs on this site, and close it if it is open. If you already submitted a verification code or scanned a QR code, open WhatsApp and go to Linked Devices to log out any session you do not recognise. Turn on two-step verification with a new PIN, and warn your contacts not to act on unusual requests sent from your account. Only use WhatsApp through the official app or by typing the official address yourself. Defenders should block the domain and its IP at DNS and proxy level and add it to mail and messaging filters. Reports to the registrar and hosting provider help speed up takedown.
