PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

mextena.info was an impersonation phishing site that posed as a legitimate crypto service. Its presence on the MetaMask and SEAL blocklists points to wallet users as the intended victims. PhishDestroy first detected it on 2026-09-27, only three days after the domain was registered. The site went offline on 2026-09-28, and its DNS was still inactive when we checked again on 2026-10-19.

How the scam works

Impersonation pages copy the look of a trusted project so visitors believe they are on the real site. The bare page title "Select" fits the kind of choice screen these schemes often use, such as a list asking the visitor to pick a wallet before continuing. From there, victims are typically asked to connect a wallet and sign a transaction or approval, or to type in a recovery phrase. Either step can let the operator move tokens out of the wallet, and blockchain transfers cannot be reversed.

Evidence

Detection by commercial scanners was thin. On 2026-09-28, only Forcepoint ThreatSeeker out of 91 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain, so a quick reputation check would likely have shown it as clean. The crypto-focused blocklists were stronger signals: MetaMask and SEAL both listed it alongside PhishDestroy, and it appears in four AlienVault OTX threat pulses.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered on 2026-09-24 through PDR Ltd. (PublicDomainRegistry.com) and was flagged within days, a short lifespan typical of throwaway phishing domains. It was hosted at 162.241.85.94 on the Unified Layer network, with the server located in India. The site had a free Let's Encrypt certificate, which means the browser padlock showed only that the connection was encrypted, not that the site was trustworthy.

What to do

If you connected a wallet to this site, use a token-approval checker to revoke any permissions you granted during or after your visit. If you entered a recovery phrase, treat that wallet as compromised and move any remaining assets to a new wallet created with a fresh phrase. Even if you only browsed, do not return through saved links or bookmarks. Security teams should block the domain and its IP address, and search logs for connections made between 2026-09-24 and 2026-09-28.
