PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

connecctips.net is an impersonation phishing page posing as connectIPS, the interbank payment platform used by bank customers in Nepal. The domain adds an extra letter to the real brand name, a typo that is easy to miss in a link or search result. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-10-16. The site is now dead: its DNS stopped resolving on 2026-10-17, and it was still offline when last checked on 2026-10-19.

How the scam works

Lookalike payment portals copy the real login screen so victims type in their username, password and the one-time codes sent to their phone. With those, attackers can sign in to the real service and move money from linked bank accounts before the victim notices. The page served on this domain was titled "Access Restricted — connectIPS". That title shows a restriction notice under the connectIPS brand rather than a login form, while we classified the domain as impersonation.

Evidence

When the domain appeared, VirusTotal showed 0 detections out of 92 engines on 2026-10-16. That means a fresh lookalike like this one would not have been caught by most security tools in its first days. The PhishDestroy blocklist carries the domain, and it appears in five AlienVault OTX threat pulses. Those pulses show that other researchers are tracking the same infrastructure.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered through NameSilo, LLC on 2026-10-15, and we detected it the next day. It went offline the day after that. This one-to-two-day lifespan is typical of short-burst phishing runs. The site was hosted on 216.150.16.1 in the United States. It used a free Let's Encrypt certificate, so the browser padlock it showed says nothing about whether the site was genuine.

What to do

If you entered your connectIPS username, password or any one-time code on this domain, change your connectIPS password now from the official app or site. Contact your bank to check for unauthorized transfers or newly linked accounts. Turn on or reset any extra verification your bank offers. Never share an OTP that arrives when you did not start a transaction yourself. Defenders should block connecctips.net and watch for further misspellings of the connectIPS name, since operators often rotate to new domains after a takedown.
