PhishDestroy threat report
base.app-open.click is an impersonation phishing page. Its hostname begins with "base" followed by "app-open", which makes it look like a link that launches a legitimate crypto app. Its blocklisting by MetaMask and SEAL points to crypto wallet users as the intended targets. PhishDestroy first saw it on 2026-09-11, and it went offline the next day, 2026-09-12. When last checked on 2026-10-19, the site was dead and its DNS was inactive.
Visitors landed on a page titled "Human Verification - Captcha" instead of the service the hostname suggested. The captcha title does not itself show a brand, but we classified the site as impersonation phishing. Fake verification screens like this are often used as a gate: they make the visit feel routine and push the victim toward the next step. That next step is usually a lookalike interface that asks for a wallet connection, a transaction signature or a recovery phrase. Any of these can hand control of the victim's funds to the operator.
On 2026-09-16, VirusTotal showed 5 of 89 engines flagging the domain: alphaMountain.ai, CRDF, Fortinet, Gridinsoft and SOCRadar. That is a low count, so many security tools would not have warned visitors. The stronger signal comes from crypto-specific defenses, since MetaMask and SEAL list it alongside PhishDestroy. Spamhaus also places the domain in its DBL botnet category, which ties it to malicious infrastructure beyond a simple misleading page.
The domain was registered through Global Domain Group LLC on 2026-02-26, about six and a half months before we detected it. That long gap suggests it was held in reserve before being put to use. It sat behind Cloudflare, Inc. on an address located in Canada, which hides the true origin server. Its certificate came from Let's Encrypt, so the padlock in the browser said nothing about whether the site was trustworthy.
If you connected a wallet on this site, review and revoke any token approvals it may have obtained. Then move your assets to a fresh wallet if you signed anything you did not understand. If you typed in a seed phrase, treat that wallet as compromised and empty it into a new one immediately. If the verification step asked you to paste or run anything on your computer, scan the device and change passwords from a clean machine. Defenders should block the domain and the wider app-open.click name, and check logs for visits around 2026-09-11 to 2026-09-12.
