PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

soenyinyiaung.github.io is a phishing page that impersonated Facebook. It was hosted on a free GitHub Pages subdomain and aimed at Facebook users who could be tricked into handing over their account credentials. PhishDestroy first saw it on 2026-09-06, and it went offline on 2026-09-11. As of 2026-10-19 the address is dead and serves no content at its root. The page title now reads "Site not found · GitHub Pages", which does not match our classification as a Facebook impersonation page.

How the scam works

Pages like this copy Facebook's login screen or a Facebook-themed warning, such as a fake copyright strike, a page-suspension notice or a verification request. Links to them usually arrive through direct messages, comments or emails. The victim enters an email or phone number and password, sometimes along with a two-factor code, and the form sends these straight to the operator. The goal is account takeover. A hijacked Facebook profile or business page can be used to run scams on the victim's contacts, buy ads, or be held for ransom. Using a github.io address gives the link a familiar, technical-looking domain that can slip past casual suspicion.

Evidence

Fifteen of 89 VirusTotal engines flagged the site when it was checked on 2026-09-16, including BitDefender, ESET, Fortinet, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, G-Data, Emsisoft, CyRadar and alphaMountain.ai. That is a solid cross-vendor consensus for a short-lived page. Google Safe Browsing lists it under SOCIAL_ENGINEERING, so Chrome, Firefox and Safari users would see a deceptive-site warning. urlscan.io rated it malicious and detected Facebook branding on the page. It also appears on the PhishDestroy and PhishFeed blocklists.

Infrastructure

The site sat on GitHub's shared Pages platform, so the domain record points to GitHub, Inc. as registrar. Traffic was served from Fastly's US network, the same CDN that fronts all GitHub Pages sites. This setup costs the operator nothing and takes minutes to deploy. It also means the page could be removed quickly, which is consistent with it going dark five days after PhishDestroy first saw it.

What to do

If you entered your Facebook login on this page, change your Facebook password immediately. Also change it on any other service where you reused it. Turn on two-factor authentication with an authenticator app rather than SMS, then review Facebook's active sessions and log out any devices you don't recognize. Check your account's recent activity, including connected apps, ad accounts, page admin roles and messages sent in your name, and warn contacts if suspicious messages went out. Defenders should block the subdomain and watch for look-alike github.io pages that copy Facebook branding. Report any new variants to GitHub and Facebook for takedown.
