PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

pesodolarapp.com presents itself as "PesoDollar," an offline Mexican peso to dollar converter bundled with a so-called Mexico Travel Shield. PhishDestroy classifies it as an impersonation phishing page and first flagged it on 2026-10-07. Its presence on the MetaMask and SEAL blocklists places it in front of crypto wallet users as well as travelers. As of 2026-10-19 the site was still online and serving content.

How the scam works

The page title describes a harmless travel utility, while our classification is impersonation phishing. Pages like this borrow the look of a familiar or plausible app to win trust, then steer visitors toward a step that benefits the operator. That step is usually entering personal or login details, downloading a supposed app, or connecting a wallet to unlock a feature. Depending on which step the visitor takes, they can lose account credentials, personal data, or funds.

Evidence

On 2026-10-11, VirusTotal showed 9 of 92 engines flagging the domain. The vendors that flagged it include Kaspersky, BitDefender, Fortinet, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, G-Data, Gridinsoft, CRDF and alphaMountain.ai. That count is modest, but it comes from several unrelated security companies, which matters more than the raw number. MetaMask and SEAL list the domain alongside PhishDestroy, so wallet software that uses those feeds can warn users before the page loads. Four AlienVault OTX pulses also reference the domain, which shows other researchers are tracking it.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered on 2026-09-28 through Cloudflare, Inc., and PhishDestroy detected it nine days later. That short gap is typical of a throwaway domain put into use almost immediately. The site resolves to 199.36.158.100 on Fastly's US network, a large shared content delivery platform where one IP serves many unrelated sites.

What to do

If you typed any password or login details on this site, change them at once and turn on two-factor authentication wherever that password was reused. If you installed anything offered as the PesoDollar app, uninstall it and run a malware scan. If you connected a crypto wallet, check it for unfamiliar token approvals, revoke them, and move your funds to a fresh wallet if you signed anything you did not recognize. Defenders should block the domain at DNS and proxy level and add 199.36.158.100 to monitoring for this hostname only, since the IP is shared. They should also report the site to the registrar and host so it can be taken down.
