Overview

How the scam works

Sites like this copy the look of a legitimate bank: a polished homepage, account sign-up and login forms, and promises of secure savings or capital growth. Visitors are steered into opening an "account". That means handing over usernames, passwords, identity documents and contact details. Often they are also asked to deposit money that the operators control. Victims can lose the funds they send, the credentials they enter, and personal data that can be reused for identity fraud or follow-up scams.
