PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

huob-huobi.com.cn is an impersonation phishing page posing as HTX, the exchange formerly known as Huobi. Its title reads "火币app下载 | 火币_htx_专业智能化加密货币交易平台", which translates to "Huobi app download | Huobi HTX professional intelligent crypto trading platform." It is aimed at Chinese-speaking traders looking for the official Huobi app. PhishDestroy first detected it on 2026-10-13, and it was still online and serving content on 2026-10-19.

How the scam works

The domain doubles the brand name ("huob-huobi") so it looks official in search results and shared links. The page presents itself as the place to download the HTX app. Fake exchange download pages like this usually deliver a counterfeit app or login screen. These capture account credentials, 2FA codes or wallet recovery phrases, or show fake balances to draw in deposits that can never be withdrawn. Anyone who installs the app or signs in through it risks losing their exchange account and any crypto sent to the operators.

Evidence

On 2026-10-17, VirusTotal showed 8 of 92 engines flagging the domain: alphaMountain.ai, BitDefender, CRDF, Fortinet, G-Data, Gridinsoft, Kaspersky and SOCRadar. That count is modest, so many browsers and security tools may still let the page load without a warning. The crypto-focused blocklists of MetaMask and SEAL list it alongside PhishDestroy. It also appears in 4 AlienVault OTX threat pulses, so other researchers have tracked it independently.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered on 2026-10-08 through 北京新网数码信息技术有限公司 (Xin Net). It was caught just five days later, which points to a freshly created domain built for this campaign rather than an older site that was compromised. It is hosted in Hong Kong on the POWER LINE DATACENTER network. The site uses a TrustAsia LiteSSL certificate, a low-cost domain-validated certificate, so the padlock in the address bar only means the connection is encrypted and says nothing about who runs the site.

What to do

Do not install any app downloaded from this site. If you already installed it, remove it and scan your device. If you signed in through it, change your HTX password at once from the official app, reset 2FA, and check your login history, API keys and withdrawal whitelist. If you entered a seed phrase, move your funds to a new wallet immediately. Do not send any further "verification" or "unlock" payments. Report losses to HTX support and the police. Defenders should block the domain and its Hong Kong hosting IP, and watch for similar Huobi lookalike domains under .com.cn.
