PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

fomovoted.family is an impersonation phishing page that presents itself as 'fomo votes', a voting-themed front built to look like a legitimate service. It targets people who receive a link asking them to vote, support a contestant or confirm participation. PhishDestroy first detected it on 2026-10-07. As of 2026-10-19 the domain was still alive and actively redirecting visitors onward.

How the scam works

Voting lures depend on urgency and social pressure. A friend's account or a direct message asks you to 'vote' in a poll. The page then asks you to sign in with an existing account, enter a phone number or verification code, or connect something to confirm your identity. Whatever you submit goes to the operators, who typically take over the account and use it to send the same vote request to your contacts. The redirect lets the domain act as a gateway that passes victims to the next stage of the scheme.

Evidence

Six of 92 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain as of 2026-10-19: alphaMountain.ai, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Fortinet, Gridinsoft, SOCRadar and VIPRE. The count is modest, but it comes from several independent vendors, which supports our classification. Spamhaus lists the domain in its DBL as spam, so mail filters relying on that list should block links to it. The domain also appears in four AlienVault OTX threat pulses, which means other researchers have tied it to malicious activity.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered on 2026-09-30 through NICENIC INTERNATIONAL GROUP CO., LIMITED, just seven days before we caught it. A domain that is only days old and already pushing a voting lure fits a fast, disposable campaign. It is hosted on BL Networks in the United States. It uses a free Let's Encrypt certificate, so the padlock in the browser says nothing about whether the site is trustworthy.

What to do

If you entered a password on this page, change it immediately on the real service and on any other site where you reused it. Then log out all active sessions and turn on app-based two-factor authentication. If you typed in a verification code or phone number, check whether your account has been taken over. Warn your contacts not to trust vote requests that appear to come from you. Defenders should block the domain at DNS and email gateways, and they should hunt in logs for users who clicked it after 2026-09-30.
