PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

ashland-energy.com is an impersonation phishing page that poses as an Adobe "PDF Viewer" to trick people into handing over their login credentials. It targets anyone who receives a link to a supposedly shared document, typically in work email. PhishDestroy first detected the site on 2026-10-17. As of 2026-10-19 the site is still online and the phishing content is live.

How the scam works

Lures of this type arrive as a message about an invoice, contract or shared file, with a button to view the PDF. The page imitates Adobe's document viewer, often showing a blurred or locked preview, and says you must sign in to open the file. The login form usually asks for an email address and password, and every entry goes straight to the operators. Stolen mailbox credentials are then used to read correspondence, send more phishing from a trusted address, reset passwords on other services, or attempt invoice and payment fraud.

Its name suggests an energy business and has no connection to Adobe. The site is hosted at 172.93.106.214 on the RELIABLESITE - ReliableSite.Net LLC network in the United States. It uses a TLS certificate from Let's Encrypt (YR1), so the padlock in the browser says nothing about whether the site is legitimate.

If you typed a password, change it immediately, along with any other account that uses the same password. Turn on multi-factor authentication and check your mailbox for unfamiliar forwarding rules, sign-in sessions and sent messages.
