PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

strt-ledgr-com-us.pages.dev is a phishing page that impersonated Ledger, the hardware wallet maker. It copied the onboarding flow new owners use to set up their device. The page carried the title "Get Started with Ledger | Ledger.com/Start" to target people unboxing a new Ledger or reinstalling its software. PhishDestroy first saw it on 2026-09-07. It has been offline since 2026-09-16, the hosting provider has blocked its content, and it was still dead at our last check on 2026-10-19.

How the scam works

Fake "Ledger Start" pages catch users at the one moment they expect to follow setup instructions from a website. Pages of this type usually walk the visitor through a convincing setup sequence. At some point they ask for the 24-word recovery phrase, either to "verify" or "restore" the device, or they offer a doctored Ledger Live download that harvests it later. Anyone who holds that phrase controls the wallet. The operator can empty every account tied to it from anywhere, and the hardware device offers no protection once the seed is exposed. Ledger never asks for the recovery phrase on a website or in a form.

Evidence

On 2026-09-17, 15 of 89 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain. Those vendors included BitDefender, ESET, Fortinet, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, G-Data, Emsisoft, CyRadar and alphaMountain.ai, a spread of independent engines that points to a confirmed phish rather than a single noisy heuristic. urlscan.io rated the page malicious and recognised Ledger branding on it. The domain is listed on the PhishDestroy, MetaMask and SEAL blocklists, so wallet users running MetaMask's phishing protection would have seen a warning.

Infrastructure

The site was a free Cloudflare Pages subdomain created on 2026-08-01, 37 days before PhishDestroy detected it. The hostname packs "start," "ledger," "com" and "us" into a misspelled string meant to pass a glance in a browser bar. It resolved to Cloudflare, Inc. infrastructure geolocated in Canada. The Google Trust Services certificate only means the padlock appeared as it does on any legitimate site, so it says nothing about trust.

What to do

If you typed your recovery phrase into this page, treat the wallet as compromised. Set up a new device or reset it with a freshly generated phrase, then move any remaining funds to it immediately, before the attacker does. If you installed software from the page, uninstall it and get Ledger Live only from Ledger's official site. If you also connected a hot wallet, review and revoke any token approvals you granted. Security teams should block the hostname and watch for similar typo-laden pages.dev subdomains that use Ledger setup wording.
