socrates-gm.com is a credential phishing site built to pass for Socrates, the login portal General Motors provides to its workforce. Its page title, "Socrates GM - GM Socrates Login @ socrates.gm.com", even quotes the genuine portal's address, which differs from this domain only by a hyphen where a dot should be. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-09-16. As of 2026-10-19 the domain was still online and serving a redirect, so it remains a live risk.
How the scam works
Victims arrive through a link in an email, text or search result and see what looks like the familiar GM Socrates sign-in screen. Whatever they type into it, typically a GM ID and password and sometimes a one-time code, goes straight to the operators instead of to GM. With those credentials an attacker can sign in to the real portal and reach payroll, benefits and personal records, or use the account as a foothold for further attacks inside the company. The hyphenated name is the trick: at a glance it reads as an official GM subdomain.
Evidence
On 2026-09-24, 14 of 89 VirusTotal engines classified the domain as malicious or phishing. The vendors flagging it include BitDefender, ESET, G-Data, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, alphaMountain.ai, CRDF, ADMINUSLabs and Chong Lua Dao. That is a solid consensus for a site impersonating a corporate portal rather than a mass-market brand. Besides PhishDestroy, CryptoFirewall also lists it, and it appears in six AlienVault OTX threat pulses, which means other researchers have independently tracked it.
Infrastructure
The domain was registered on 2022-11-21 through Spaceship, Inc., almost four years before PhishDestroy detected it. That long gap suggests it was registered well in advance or held in reserve before being put to use. It resolves to 216.198.79.1 on Amazon.com, Inc. infrastructure in the United States. Its Let's Encrypt certificate means the padlock icon proves nothing about who runs the site.
What to do
If you entered your GM credentials on this page, change your Socrates password immediately from the genuine portal. Change it on any other site where you used the same password, and report the incident to GM's IT security team so they can check your account for unauthorized access. If you also submitted a verification code, ask IT to reset your multi-factor enrollment and end any active sessions. Afterwards, check your payroll and direct-deposit details for unexpected changes. Security teams should block the domain at DNS and proxy level and search logs for employees who visited it. Warn staff that the real portal never uses a hyphenated GM domain.
