It targets marketers, small businesses and everyday users looking for a quick link or QR tool. We first flagged it on 2026-09-14, and it was still online with live content on 2026-10-19.
How the scam works
Impersonation pages copy the look and promises of a legitimate online service so visitors hand over what they would give the real one. With a link and QR tool, that usually means signing up or logging in with an email and password, and sometimes entering payment details for a "premium" plan. Those details then go to the operators. The page title describes an ordinary link-management product, while our classification marks the site as impersonation phishing.
Evidence
On 2026-09-25, 15 of 91 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain. They include BitDefender, ESET, Fortinet, G-Data, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, alphaMountain.ai, CyRadar and the Vietnamese anti-scam group Chong Lua Dao. Agreement across this many unrelated vendors makes a single false positive unlikely. The domain also appears in five AlienVault OTX threat pulses, so other researchers have tracked it independently. Among blocklists, it is currently listed by PhishDestroy.
Infrastructure
The domain was registered on 2024-07-31 through TUCOWS.COM, CO., more than two years before we detected it. That long history can make the site look established to visitors and to reputation filters. It runs on Amazon cloud hosting in Singapore with a free Let's Encrypt certificate. The padlock in the browser therefore says nothing about who runs the site.
What to do
If you created an account on ontwig.com or logged in there, change that password everywhere you reused it and turn on two-factor authentication for your email. If you entered card details, contact your bank to dispute charges and consider reissuing the card. Treat any short links or QR codes generated through the site with suspicion, and stop sharing them. Defenders should block the domain at DNS and proxy level. They should also search mail and web logs for ontwig.com links or QR-code redirects, and alert users who clicked them.
