PhishDestroy threat report
metaextn.pro is an impersonation phishing site built around the MetaMask brand, and its name blends "meta" with an abbreviation of "extension." It targets people looking to install, restore or fix their MetaMask browser wallet. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-09-17. It went offline on 2026-09-18, and when last checked on 2026-10-19 its DNS was no longer resolving.
Fake MetaMask sites usually copy the look of the official wallet and steer visitors toward a "restore," "verify" or "sync" step that asks for the Secret Recovery Phrase, or toward a counterfeit extension download. Anyone who hands over the phrase gives the operator full control of the wallet, and the funds can be drained within minutes. The captured page carried the title "Not Acceptable!", which reads like a server error, while scanning classified the site as a MetaMask impersonation.
urlscan.io returned a malicious verdict and matched the MetaMask brand on the page. On VirusTotal, only 2 of 89 engines flagged it as of 2026-09-18: ChainPatrol and Forcepoint ThreatSeeker. That low count is common for short-lived crypto phishing and does not mean the site is safe. More weight comes from the blocklists, because MetaMask's own list and SEAL both include it alongside PhishDestroy. The domain also appears in four AlienVault OTX threat pulses.
The domain was registered through Spaceship, Inc. on 2026-09-12, five days before PhishDestroy detected it, and it was dead about a day after that. That throwaway lifespan fits a campaign that rotates through fresh domains. The site was hosted on the Unified Layer network in the United States at 162.241.85.94.
If you typed your Secret Recovery Phrase or private key into this site, treat that wallet as compromised. Create a new wallet with a fresh phrase and move any remaining assets to it immediately, then check for and revoke any token approvals you granted. If you installed an extension from here, remove it and reinstall MetaMask only from your browser's official extension store. Defenders should block the domain and its IP, and should search proxy and DNS logs from 2026-09-12 onward for users who reached it.
