It targets Web3 wallet holders who believe they are interacting with a legitimate DeFi trading platform. PhishDestroy first identified it on 2026-09-05, and as of 2026-10-18 the site remains live with active content.
How the scam works
Wallet drainers disguised as DEX platforms lure users into connecting their crypto wallets to swap tokens, provide liquidity or claim rewards. Once a wallet is connected, the site requests one or more token approvals or signature authorizations that appear routine but grant the attacker permission to transfer assets out of the victim's wallet without further confirmation. The victim loses tokens, NFTs or the entire wallet balance in a single silent transaction. The Linea branding adds credibility by associating the fake platform with a real Layer-2 network.
Evidence
Five of 89 engines on VirusTotal flagged etherexfinance.net as malicious as of 2026-09-18; vendors include alphaMountain.ai, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Gridinsoft, Seclookup and SOCRadar. The domain also appears in four threat-intelligence pulses on OTX, indicating independent researcher tracking. Detection coverage is moderate rather than broad, which is typical for newly stood-up drainer infrastructure that has not yet been widely reported. PhishDestroy has added it to its own blocklist.
Infrastructure
The domain was registered on 2026-04-16 through Fewmoretaps OU d/b/a Trustname.com, giving it roughly five months of existence before PhishDestroy flagged it. It is hosted on Cloudflare infrastructure with a Canadian-geolocated IP of 104.21.18.210. The TLS certificate was issued by Let's Encrypt, a free automated authority commonly used to give fraudulent sites the appearance of legitimacy.
What to do
If you visited the site but did not connect a wallet, no immediate action is required beyond avoiding any return visits.
