PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

americangirlgifts.com is a fake online shop that presents itself as the official Hershey's chocolate store, aimed at people buying sweets and gifts online. Its page title reads "Buy Chocolate Online at the The Hershey's Store | SHOP HERSHEY", even though the domain name points toward American Girl gifts rather than Hershey's. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-10-01, and the shop was still online and serving its storefront when last checked on 2026-10-19.

How the scam works

The site copies the look and branding of the Hershey's store so that shoppers trust it enough to place an order and enter card or payment details at checkout. Fake shops like this usually lure buyers with discounted gift boxes or seasonal bundles. They take the money and then ship nothing, ship a cheap substitute, or go silent. Victims lose the purchase amount, and the card details and home address typed into checkout can be reused for further fraud.

Evidence

urlscan.io rated the site malicious and specifically marked it as a fake shop, which directly supports our classification. On VirusTotal, 6 of 91 engines flagged the domain on 2026-10-01: alphaMountain.ai, CRDF, Fortinet, Gridinsoft, Netcraft and SOCRadar. That count is modest, so many browsers and security tools may still let the page load without a warning. Spamhaus lists the domain in its DBL as spam, and it appears in two AlienVault OTX threat pulses.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered on 2026-08-21 through TuringSign Inc. d/b/a Cosmotown, about six weeks before PhishDestroy detected it. That is a typical lifespan for throwaway storefronts set up to catch a buying season. It is hosted on a server in Georgia, which has no connection to the American brand it imitates. The free Let's Encrypt certificate gives the site a padlock icon, which shows the connection is encrypted but proves nothing about who runs the shop.

What to do

If you ordered from this site, contact your bank or card issuer right away to dispute the charge and ask for a replacement card. Watch your statements for further unauthorized transactions. Treat any confirmation emails or tracking numbers from the shop as unreliable, and be wary of follow-up messages that use your order details. To buy Hershey's products, go to the brand's official site or an established retailer you reach on your own. Defenders should block the domain at the web proxy and DNS layers and report it to card networks and brand-protection contacts at Hershey's.
