PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

whatsapp.checkleaked.com is an impersonation phishing page that borrows WhatsApp's name and branding under the title "WhatsApp Profile Checker & DP Viewer." It targets WhatsApp users who want to see someone's profile picture or check a number without being noticed. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-09-26, and the page was still online and serving content on 2026-10-19. The title presents the site as a harmless lookup utility, while our classification is impersonation phishing.

How the scam works

Profile checker and DP viewer lures work on curiosity. The visitor types in a phone number, often their own or a contact's, and the site then asks for something more to "unlock" the result. That might be a WhatsApp verification code, a login, a survey, or an app install. A six-digit WhatsApp code handed to a page like this is enough to register the account on another device. The victim can lose access to their chats and contacts, and the hijacked account can then be used to scam the people in their address book.

Evidence

Thirteen of 92 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain as of 2026-10-07. They include BitDefender, ESET, Fortinet, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, G-Data, Gridinsoft, alphaMountain.ai and CRDF, a mix of major antivirus vendors and specialist URL-reputation services. urlscan.io returned a malicious verdict and independently recognized WhatsApp branding on the page. The domain appears on the PhishDestroy blocklist. Many filters still let it through, so users should not count on a browser warning.

Infrastructure

The parent domain was registered through Namecheap on 2025-02-17, about nineteen months before we detected this WhatsApp-themed subdomain. The broad "checkleaked" name leaves room for lookalike pages aimed at other brands under the same domain. Traffic is routed through Cloudflare on an address geolocated to Canada, which hides the real origin server. The padlock comes from a Google Trust Services certificate, which only means the connection is encrypted and says nothing about whether the site is honest.

What to do

If you entered your number or any code here, open WhatsApp now and confirm you are still logged in. Turn on two-step verification with a PIN, and check Linked Devices for any session you don't recognize. If you lost access, re-register your number in the official app, and warn your contacts not to answer money requests sent from your account. Uninstall anything the site told you to download. Defenders should block the full checkleaked.com domain and flag messages that link to WhatsApp "profile viewer" tools.
