PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

varrogep.hu presents itself as a Hungarian online store. Its page title, "Varrógép webáruház", means "sewing machine webshop", so it targets Hungarian-speaking shoppers looking for sewing equipment. PhishDestroy classifies it as an impersonation phishing page and first flagged it on 2026-09-20. As of 2026-10-19 the site was still online and serving live content.

How the scam works

Impersonation shops copy the look of a legitimate retailer, or of a believable generic store, so that buyers trust the checkout. A shopper chooses a machine, often at an attractive price, then enters a name, address, phone number and payment card details. Those details go to the operators instead of a real merchant. The victim can lose the payment itself, have the card used for further charges, and have personal data reused in follow-up scams. The page title shows an ordinary sewing machine webshop, while our classification is impersonation phishing.

Evidence

On 2026-10-02, 6 of 91 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain: alphaMountain.ai, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Gridinsoft, Seclookup, SOCRadar and VIPRE. That is a minority of engines, but six separate vendors reached the same verdict on their own. The domain also appears in 5 AlienVault OTX threat pulses, which means other researchers have tracked it as well. Among blocklists, it is currently listed only by PhishDestroy.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered on 2000-05-25, more than two decades before PhishDestroy detected the phishing content. A domain that old carries a long history, and that history can make a store look established to shoppers and to some filters. The site is hosted in Hungary on ATW Internet Kft. at 88.151.96.8, which fits its Hungarian-language audience. It uses a free Let's Encrypt certificate, so the browser padlock only confirms an encrypted connection and says nothing about whether the shop is genuine.
