PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

start-ledgerr-com.pages.dev is a phishing page that impersonates Ledger. It is built to catch owners of Ledger hardware wallets looking for the official setup page. The name copies Ledger's onboarding path with a doubled "r", and the page title "Ledger Start - Secure Your Crypto" mirrors the device setup flow. PhishDestroy first saw it on 2026-09-15. The site has been offline since 2026-10-14, with its content blocked by the hosting provider, and was still dead at the last check on 2026-10-19.

How the scam works

Fake "Ledger Start" pages target people at the moment they set up or troubleshoot a hardware wallet, when following on-screen instructions feels normal. Schemes of this type usually claim the device needs a firmware update, synchronization or verification, then ask the visitor to type their 24-word recovery phrase into a web form. Ledger never asks for that phrase online. Whoever holds it can rebuild the wallet on their own device and empty every account it controls, and the hardware wallet offers no protection once the phrase has been typed anywhere else.

Evidence

On 2026-09-29, VirusTotal showed 11 of 91 engines flagging the domain. They included alphaMountain.ai, BitDefender, ESET, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Fortinet, G-Data, Kaspersky and Lionic. That is a minority of engines, but it spans several major security vendors acting independently. urlscan.io rated the page malicious and recognized Ledger branding on it. Beyond PhishDestroy, the domain is listed by MetaMask and SEAL, so wallet users with those protections enabled would have been warned.

Infrastructure

The page was created on Cloudflare Pages on 2026-09-14, just one day before PhishDestroy detected it. That fits a disposable deployment meant to be used quickly and abandoned. It was served from Cloudflare's network, with the address geolocated to Canada. Its certificate came from Google Trust Services, issued automatically for the free subdomain, so the padlock said nothing about who ran the site.

What to do

If you entered your recovery phrase on this page, treat the wallet as compromised. Set up a new device or reset the current one with a freshly generated phrase, then move any remaining funds to it immediately. Do not reuse the exposed phrase for anything. If you only viewed the page and typed nothing, no action is needed, but set up Ledger devices only through Ledger Live or the address printed in the box. Security teams should block the domain and watch for other pages.dev projects combining "ledger" with typo variants. New lookalikes appear soon after older ones are taken down.
