PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

stakoex.org is an impersonation phishing page that presents itself under the name STAKO. It is aimed at cryptocurrency users who believe they have found a legitimate crypto service. PhishDestroy flagged it on 2026-10-13, the same day the domain was registered. As of 2026-10-19 the site was still online and serving its phishing content.

How the scam works

The page carries the title STAKO and uses a domain that adds "ex" to that name, a common way to suggest a crypto exchange or staking product. Impersonation sites like this one copy a recognizable brand so visitors trust the page enough to act on it. The usual actions are signing in, depositing funds, or connecting and approving a wallet. Whatever a victim types or signs goes to the operators. Credentials can be reused against real accounts, deposits are not returned, and wallet approvals can let the attackers move tokens out of the wallet.

Evidence

Eight of 92 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain as of 2026-10-17: alphaMountain.ai, BitDefender, CRDF, Fortinet, G-Data, Gridinsoft, Kaspersky and SOCRadar. That is a minority of engines, but the vendors that flagged it are independent of each other. urlscan.io returned a malicious verdict and tagged the page as a crypto scam. Besides PhishDestroy, the MetaMask and SEAL blocklists list the domain, and it appears in four AlienVault OTX threat pulses.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered on 2026-10-13 through Cloudflare, Inc. and was caught within hours, a pattern typical of short-lived scam domains. It resolves to Cloudflare's network in the US, so the address visible to visitors belongs to Cloudflare's shared edge rather than the server hosting the page. The Let's Encrypt certificate means the padlock in the browser is no sign that the site is legitimate.

What to do

If you connected a wallet to stakoex.org, revoke any token approvals granted to it and move remaining assets to a fresh wallet if you signed anything you did not understand. If you entered a password, change it on the real service and on any account that uses the same password, then turn on app-based 2FA. Never enter a seed phrase on this site, and do not send further "fees" to unlock funds you deposited. Defenders should block the domain at DNS and proxy level and add it to wallet and browser protection lists.
