PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

snow-rat-590514.hostingersite.com is an impersonation phishing page that uses Tether branding under the title "USDT Escrow Approval". It targets people buying, selling or receiving USDT, especially in peer-to-peer deals where a stranger proposes escrow. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-09-02, and the site was still online when last checked on 2026-10-19.

How the scam works

Fake escrow pages usually follow a private conversation. A "buyer" or "seller" insists the trade go through a Tether escrow service and sends a link that looks official. The page then asks the victim to "approve" the escrow. In practice that means either signing a wallet transaction that gives a third party permission to move USDT, or sending USDT or a "release fee" to an address the scammer controls. Tether does not run an escrow service for private trades, so any money or permission handed over goes straight to the operator.

Evidence

urlscan.io rated the page malicious and recognised Tether as the impersonated brand. On VirusTotal, 6 of 89 engines flagged it as of 2026-09-16: alphaMountain.ai, Emsisoft, Fortinet, Gridinsoft, LevelBlue and Netcraft. That is low coverage, so many browsers and security tools will not warn visitors yet. ScamSniffer, a crypto-focused blocklist, lists the domain alongside PhishDestroy.

Infrastructure

The page is a free-style subdomain on hostingersite.com, Hostinger's site-builder zone. That zone was registered on 2023-06-22 through Hostinger International Ltd., so its age says nothing about how long this operator has been active. The random "snow-rat-590514" label is typical of a throwaway site created in minutes. It is served from Hostinger International Limited's network in Germany. The RapidSSL certificate issued via DigiCert only encrypts the connection, so the padlock is no sign of legitimacy.

What to do

If you connected a wallet or signed anything on this page, open a token-approval checker for your network and revoke any USDT allowance you do not recognise. Then move remaining funds to a fresh wallet. If you sent USDT or paid a "fee", stop all further payments, keep the transaction hashes and chat logs, and report the trade counterparty to the platform where you met them. Treat any request to unlock funds with another payment as part of the same scam. Defenders should block the full hostname, report it to Hostinger's abuse team, and flag inbound links to Tether-branded escrow pages in chat and email filters.
