Overview

register-aave.pro is an impersonation phishing site posing as Aave, the decentralized lending protocol, and it targets DeFi users and holders of Aave positions. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-09-01, the same day the domain was registered. As of 2026-10-19 the site was still online and its content was reachable through a redirect, so it remains a live threat.

How the scam works

The word "register" in the domain is the hook. Aave is a permissionless protocol with no accounts or sign-up step, so any page asking you to "register" with Aave is fake. Pages like this usually push the visitor to connect a wallet and then sign a transaction, token approval or permit that hands spending rights to the attacker. Some ask outright for a seed phrase under the pretext of verifying or activating an account. In either case the victim can lose every token the attacker gains access to, and a single signature is often enough to empty a wallet.

Evidence

Six of 89 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain when it was scanned on 2026-09-15: alphaMountain.ai, CRDF, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Fortinet, Gridinsoft and SOCRadar. That is a modest count, but it is reinforced elsewhere. Spamhaus lists the domain in its DBL as phishing, and it appears on the MetaMask and SEAL blocklists alongside PhishDestroy. Three AlienVault OTX threat pulses also reference it.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered through Spaceship, Inc. on 2026-09-01 and was caught the same day, which points to a fresh, purpose-built throwaway domain rather than a hijacked legitimate site. It sits behind Cloudflare, Inc. at an address geolocated to Canada, so the IP does not reveal the true origin server. Pairing a cheap .pro registration with a recognizable brand name is a common pattern in short-lived DeFi phishing campaigns.

What to do

If you connected a wallet to this site, use a token-approval checker right away to review and revoke any allowances or permits you granted, then move remaining funds to a fresh wallet. If you typed in a seed phrase, treat that wallet as fully compromised and transfer assets to a new wallet with a new phrase immediately. Reach Aave only through bookmarks you saved yourself, and remember that the protocol never asks you to register. Defenders should block the domain at DNS and proxy level and add it to wallet and browser blocklists. Report it to Cloudflare and Spaceship so it can be taken down.
