PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

poolwallet.net is a phishing site that presents itself under the page title "Pool wallet" and imitates a crypto wallet service to win the trust of people looking for one. PhishDestroy first detected it on 2026-10-13 and classified it as impersonation. As of 2026-10-19 the site was still online and serving its content, so anyone searching for a Pool-branded wallet can still land on it.

How the scam works

Wallet impersonation pages copy the name and look of a familiar product so the visitor believes they are on the official site. The page then steers the victim toward one of two actions: typing in a recovery phrase or private key to "restore" or "sync" a wallet, or connecting a wallet and signing a request presented as routine. A recovery phrase gives the operators full and permanent control of every asset in that wallet. A malicious signature can authorize transfers out of it. In both cases the funds usually move within minutes and cannot be reversed.

Evidence

On 2026-10-18, four of 92 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain: CRDF, Gridinsoft, SOCRadar and VIPRE. That is a modest count, which is typical for a site that is only a few weeks old, but four independent vendors reaching the same verdict supports the classification. The domain also appears in four AlienVault OTX threat pulses, which means other researchers have tracked it as well. Among public blocklists, it is currently listed by PhishDestroy.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered on 2026-09-04 through Cloudflare, Inc. PhishDestroy detected it 39 days later, a short lifespan that is typical of throwaway phishing domains. The site resolves to Cloudflare's network, geolocated to Canada. That is a proxy address rather than the real origin server, so the true hosting location is masked. The site has a valid certificate from Google Trust Services, so the browser padlock only means the connection is encrypted and says nothing about whether the site is genuine.

What to do

If you entered a recovery phrase or private key on poolwallet.net, treat that wallet as compromised. Create a new wallet on a trusted device and move any remaining funds to it immediately. If you connected a wallet or signed anything there, review and revoke token approvals with a reputable approval checker and watch for unexpected outgoing transactions. In the future, open wallet software only from the developer's verified official channels, not from search results or ads. Security teams should block the domain at DNS and proxy level and report it to Cloudflare's abuse channel so the account behind it can be shut down.
