PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

opulatrixtrade.com is a fake crypto trading platform that presents itself as "Opulatrix Australia™", an AI-powered investing service, and is pitched at Australian retail investors. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-09-15. The site went offline on 2026-09-16, and its content was blocked by the hosting provider when last checked on 2026-10-19.

How the scam works

The page title, "Opulatrix Australia™ | AI Trading Platform for Smarter Investing 2026", follows a familiar pattern. Schemes like this use the promise of automated, AI-driven returns to get visitors to register, often followed by phone calls from "account managers" who push for a first deposit in crypto or by card. The dashboard then shows invented profits to encourage larger deposits. When the victim tries to withdraw, the platform demands extra "taxes", "verification fees" or "unlock payments" and never releases the money. Victims lose everything they deposit, plus any personal and identity documents they upload during sign-up.

Evidence

On 2026-09-17, VirusTotal showed 14 of 89 engines flagging the domain. The flagging vendors include alphaMountain.ai, BitDefender, CRDF, ESET, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Fortinet, G-Data and Gridinsoft. The domain is also referenced in 5 AlienVault OTX threat pulses and is listed on the PhishDestroy blocklist.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered on 2026-05-18 through Dynadot Inc, four months before it was flagged. It resolved to 188.114.97.3 on Cloudflare, Inc. network space, geolocated to Canada. Cloudflare sits in front of the real origin server, so that server's location is not visible. The site used a TLS certificate from Let's Encrypt (YE2), which shows a padlock in the browser but says nothing about whether the operator is legitimate.

What to do

If you registered on this platform, stop all contact with its "brokers" and do not pay any fee they claim will unlock a withdrawal. Change any password you reused there and enable two-factor authentication on your email and exchange accounts. If you sent money, contact your bank or card issuer immediately and report the loss to Scamwatch or ReportCyber in Australia, or to your local police. Be wary of follow-up offers from "recovery services", which are a common second-stage scam. Defenders should block the domain and watch for lookalike Opulatrix-branded domains promoted through social media ads.
